Litochoro is located at the foot of Mount Olympus, about 1 hour south of Thessaloniki. Between the mountains and the sea, the picturesque village attracts many vacationers in the summer.
Within the village most things are within walking distance. Here you can find supermarkets, bakers, butchers, cafes and restaurants. In any case, you should not miss the weekly market, which takes place every Monday throughout the year. There you will find the finest herbs, fresh local fruits, vegetables, a variety of olives, gift ideas and souvenirs.
Nightlife usually starts in the bars and cafes on the main street. Only later the party continues in the beach clubs and bars directly by the sea.
In the immediate vicinity there are stretches of beach with cliffs and sandy and pebble beaches. However, the distances are not far (5-10 min by car) and variety is worth it.
If you don’t only want to relax on the beach, you can do a lot from here.
We would like to especially mention the possibility of a hike to Mount Olympus. Everyone who visits our family village should take the unique chance to shake hands with Zeus personally. We will be happy to help you with the preparations and give you tips for the start and further course. We have already climbed the summit several times and are always overwhelmed by the feeling that Olympus gives you.
On the way to Olympus you can visit the Monastery of Agios Dionisios, but also experience the local life.
By car you can also visit the Old Mountain village „Palaios Panteleimonas“ (about 18km from the villa). There you can find local restaurants with the most delicious Greek dishes, cute little stores and manufactures where you can buy many gifts and souvenirs. On the way to Palaios Panteleimonas you can also visit the Castle of Platamonas.
About 2.5 hours away by car (there are also guided bus tours) are the „floating monasteries“ of Meteora, which are definitely worth a visit. Until today monks and nuns live here, many monasteries can still be visited by tourists.
About 22 km from the villa are the cave and waterfalls of Enippeas, which are suitable for an afternoon excursion.
For those who like culture, the Naval Museum in Litochoro or the museum and theater in the neighboring village called „Saint Dion“ would certainly appeal. For visitors who like shopping, a shopping tour in the center of Katerini (about 25km away) or in Thessaloniki (coming from the airport or on the way back, about 90 km away) would be wonderful.
